Faith in Action
Southeast Lake County Faith in Action Volunteers
Volunteer support for independent living
Southeast Lake County Faith in Action Volunteers is a family of community agencies, civic-minded individuals and religious congregations (Holy Cross is one of the founding congregations) that work together to provide a safety net of basic services for our community’s most vulnerable seniors. Our mission is to help older, chronically ill and disabled adults maintain their inde¬pendence and improve their quality of life.
Flexible Volunteering
Professionally trained and supervised volunteers help with the normal tasks of everyday living such as rides to medical appointments, grocery shopping, simple household chores, errands and friendly visits.
We have assignments to fit different schedules and commitment levels, ranging from once a week to once a month. Our professional staff ensures volunteers have the back-up and support they need to manage their assignments with confidence and ease. |

Rewarding Relationships
We foster on-going relationships to provide the stability and comfort that many seniors are lacking in their lives. During transitional stages of aging, such as the loss of driving privileges, volunteers step in to provide gap filling services.
A Faith in Action volunteer takes a 91-year-old woman grocery shopping.
A volunteer brings her care recipient to an exercise class at the Patty Turner Center.
A volunteer drives a Deerfield resident to visit an old friend who moved to an assisted living facility in Lincolnshire.
A visually-impaired woman is able to review her mail and keep current with bill payments with the help of her Faith in Action volunteer.
Since 2003, Faith in Action Volunteers have provided 18,000 hours of volunteer support to ensure that local seniors can SAFELY and more HAPPILY remain part of the familiar, intergenerational neighborhoods they love. |
