Soup Kitchen

For many years, Holy Cross Parish has been actively involved in supporting the soup kitchen of the Community Social Center of Waukegan (formerly known as St. Bart's).

Our participation consists of two separate groups of parishioners, each responsible for preparing and serving a full dinner for those in need. The number of meals served is approximately 150 each time. The preparation is done at the facility in Waukegan. One group performs this ministry on the second Wednesday of each month, and again on the fifth Wednesday, when it occurs. A second group does its part on the third Thursday of each month. Groups carpool from Deerfield to Waukegan. The time commitment is about five hours per month.

This is a great opportunity to volunteer some free time to feed the hungry, as Jesus asks us. It is a richly rewarding experience, in addition to meeting and working with fellow parishioners.
