Eucharist

As a Catholic community, we believe that to become the body of Christ, as we are called to do, we must receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Any baptized Catholic is welcome to join us at the table of the Lord at any of our Masses.

ON BEING BREAD

Jesus, we thank you for coming to us
in the simple forms of bread and wine.
Transform us into being bread for others.
We recall the times we have been ground down
like the grains of wheat,
to the marrow of our existence.
The times that, like bread dough,
we have been kneaded, pounded,
shaped and pulled by the events in our lives.

There have been times
we have lain in wait,
dormant with seeming numbness,
waiting for something to happen.
And there have been times
that we have been raised up,
empowered, alive with new possibilities,
like bread dough rising.
As we receive you under the appearance of bread and wine today,
we ask you, Jesus,
to help us remember
not only our faith family here at Holy Cross,
but also all who are hungry and hurting
who need us to be bread for them,
just as you are bread for us.
We have become the bread of life
and the cup of blessing for the world.
Now we are scattered and broken,
poured out to be life for the world in your name.

AMEN.
