Small Groups:
meeting
9 times per year (18 total
sessions)
candidates
meet in the homes of the facilitator of their
group
6 times per year.
candidates meet at Church in a large group
3 times per year.
all
of these sessions take place on Sunday evenings
at
6pm-7:30pm.
LOAVES central core is it’s home groups. The teens
will have the chance to select 3 friends on their
registration form and will be guaranteed to be
placed in a group with at least 1 of those people.
This is so that the teens know some people in the
group and yet are mixed with some new people they
may not know at all. This forming of groups takes
place prior to the first year of the program. After
those groups are formed, the teens will remain in
those faith sharing groups and meet in the
facilitators’ homes 6 times during each of the 2
years of the program.
The group sessions will not be like school. There
will be a topic of importance, however, the adult
facilitators will relate the Catholic teachings,
share from their own experiences (showing how God
has met them in their own daily lives), and then
offer activities, discussion, ritual experiences, a
variety of prayer experiences, and personal sharing
opportunities for the teens to learn from each
other and to discover God in their own lives by
reflecting on their lives in these safe, small
(10-12 teens per group) groups.
The teens may be given a journal by their
facilitators to reflect in during the sessions, and
may be asked to reflect on sessions and experiences
outside of class. These journals will be a great
resource to look back upon together as a family and
for the candidates to chart their spiritual growth
in their preparation for celebrating the sacrament
of Confirmation in September (after the 2nd year of
the program).
These groups meet 6 times per year of the program.
if a candidate misses a session... they are
responsible for making up the session. The
Make-up
packets
for each session take around 1 hour to complete and
are only available on this website for download in
PDF format.
if
the candidate misses more than 3 sessions during 1
year of the program... they will have to redo that
year starting in the following Fall.
(missing
sessions in this quantity hurts the trust building
of the small groups and dramatically effects the
candidate’s relational formation in the
groups).

20 Questions:
20
short answer reflection questions you must complete
by March 1st of your 2nd year...

March 1st (2nd year) -
turned in at the Pastoral
Center
These
questions range from Catechism questions to
personal reflections on your experiences during the
2 year program. Please answer them honestly and
openly.
It is recommended that you do not leave these
questions until the "last minute," as they will
take you a number of hours to
complete.
A good idea is to tackle 1-5 questions per weekend.
That way you will not be spending an entire weekend
on these short-answer questions.
These questions will be the basis of your 5-10
minute interview in May of your 2nd year at the
last large group session at the Church.

welcome to the LOAVES program, class of 2012
Part of being in a Confirmation Program is checking in on how you are progressing in fulfilling the requirements.
Now, right here on the SAND Youth Ministry Website, you can check your status in service points and make-up packets. These databases will be updated in real time... when service is done through Holy Cross Youth Ministry, or is turned in & when Make-up Packets are turned in... your status will be updated right away.
ID Numbers:
In order to insure the protection of peoples' personal information, each candidate has been given a number ID. This number corresponds to your place in the alphabetical order of your class of the program. Contact your facilitator or the Youth Ministry Office if you misplace or forget what your ID number is.
Service Points:
Each candidates is required to fulfill 6 points of service over the course of the 2 year program (see the LOAVES:requirements section for more details). The number you will see in the service column refers to how many of the 6 total points you have already completed. Subtract your total from 6 and you will have how many points you still have yet to act on. You must do so before the end of the school year in your 2nd year in the LOAVES program.
Missed Sessions:
Each session during a school year is marked if missed (i.e: 1 of 8 means that you missed 1 session out of 8 this year). You can miss up to 3 sessions each year. This column should be helpful in quickly seeing how many sessions you've missed. If you are unsure of which sessions you've missed - check the Make-Up Work column - the numbers in that column are the session numbers that you've missed (1-9 are the 1st year's sessions & 10-17 are the 2nd year's sessions).
Make-up Packets:
Each candidates is required to attend 12 home sessions and 6 large group gatherings at the Church during the course of the LOAVES program (see the LOAVES:requirements section for more details). The numbers you will see in the make-up (sessions) column refer to those sessions out of the 18 total sessions you have missed. The numbers refer to the session numbers. They correlate directly with the Make-up Packet section of this website. If you are in your 2nd year of the program and did not complete some of the make-up packets from last year that you owe... this online database will show that to you! You are still held responsible for turning those in!
Those packets that are completed will disappear from the Make-up Work column!
